“My favorite things about PMI is the conference we attended in Utah. The things I’ve got the most out of are the educational materials and the fact that I can re-read anything I want. My personal coach is excellent and because of other employment I have I can’t go as fast but i am applying what I’ve learned at PMI and in the last 6 months I’ve now got a PR1 and my business has exploded and my new website will certainly be doing the same. The marketing aspect does indeed work.”

In the online world, the credibility of your business is a huge factor. With anyone being able to post anything about your business online, you want to do everything you can to ensure a customer’s experience with your site is professional and enjoyable.

Here’s how to make sure your site is credible:

  • You should have real, easy-to-find contact information that connects individuals with real people. If you have a physical location other than your home, put the address down (or at least a mailing address/PO Box). Have a phone number and an e-mail address. Make it easy for customers to find your contact information and to actually contact you.
  • Include adequate product details with what you’re selling. If they visit your site and there’s nothing more than a picture and a title of your product, a customer will not be impressed. However, if you include important details, benefits, and features of the product, they’ll be better informed and know that you know what you’re talking about.
  • Avoid and fix any and all typos. The great thing about the Internet is that you can always go back and change something if you find out you made a mistake, but it’s better to make sure that mistake never gets out the in the first place. Proofread everything before you post it, and have someone else look over it as well. A website full of typos will not improve your credibility.
  • You should include some valuable links on your website. These links should help customers find out more about your product, your industry, or other pertinent topics. In addition, you need to make sure these links actually work. Test them periodically (some links can change or stop working over time) to make sure they’re pointing where you want them to point.

Present yourself in a professional manner and your business will benefit from it.

Part of being an entrepreneur and running a business is being able to make decisions. Sometimes those decisions have to be made in a moment, and sometimes you have time to do your research and consider your options. But in any case, the decision has to eventually be made. And if you tend to be a bit indecisive when it comes to decision making, this could present a hindrance to he success of your business.

You may think that the worst thing to do would be to make the wrong decision. In reality, indecision can sometimes be even worse.

For instance, let’s say you bide your time, not sure of what steps to take, and doing an excessive amount of research before making a decision. You’ve lost time and you’ve lost opportunities – and if you ended up still making the wrong decision, the time may have already passed for you to fix it.

But consider these possibilities:

  • You make the right decision right away. The decision has been made, you can move forward to the next step, and reap the benefits of a good choice.
  • You make the wrong decision right away. You’ve got time to realize you made a mistake and fix it before the window of opportunity has passed.
  • You make the right decision later. You’ll will have made the right decision, but you would have potentially missed out on some of the benefits if you had made it sooner.
  • You make the wrong decision later. This is obviously the worst possibility; not only will you have to go back and fix your mistake, but you’ll have lost time and wasted effort.

All of this being said, it doesn’t mean you should be rash or hasty when making decisions. There is still a time and a place for careful consideration and appropriate research. However, don’t be hesitant in moving forward with a decision thinking you need more time to think about it. Make the decision, consider the results, and move forward confidently.

There is a misconception about websites, online business, and online marketing. And this misconception is bolstered by online phenomenons like Rebecca Black. For those of you who aren’t familiar, Rebecca Black is a 13-year-old girl who rose to a bit of fame for her song “Friday” — which was posted on YouTube and subsequently ridiculed beyond belief. The song’s popularity spread because of how awful it was, until it was eventually parodied, torn apart, and featured on a popular television show.

In other words, it went viral.

Now, she didn’t do any marketing, she didn’t develop a pay per click campaign, she didn’t maintain a blog, and she didn’t hire an SEO firm — yet she has developed a significant online presence.

Unfortunately, many people who are just getting started in the online world expect to encounter the same success with minimal to no work. Many people think that by starting a website and putting content online, Google will find it and then, somehow, tell everyone about it. Many assume that with the huge volume of online traffic happening everyday, having a portion of that end up on their site is inevitable.

Yes, some people are able to build an online presence quickly and powerfully, but this is the exception — not the rule.

So instead, you’ll need to undertake some aggressive marketing strategies. An occasional blog post with a few keywords isn’t going to cut it; if you want to see success — and see it soon — you’re going to need to be vigilant. You’ll need to institute both paid and free strategies. You’ll need to do continual A/B testing to see what works. You’ll need to produce quality content for both your own website and for your marketing efforts.

In other words, it takes work. But once you’ve aggressively built your website up, you’ll reap the rewards. And luckily, you’ll have PMI Coaching there to help you every step of the way.

A good work ethic will take you and your business far, and it's difficult to succeed without one.

Work ethic is important in every type of business, but especially if you run a business out of your home. It’s much easier to get into “work mode” every day if you work in an office. It provides a change of environment and often necessitates a certain code of dress and conduct that can make it easier to buckle down and get to work.

But if you work from home, that can be more difficult. Instead of working in an isolated cubicle or office, you’re in your home. The TV could distract you. Your family might need attention. And the flexibility of setting your own schedule can make it all-too-easy to put work off until later. A strong, disciplined work ethic can keep you from falling into these productivity-dampening habits.

Developing a good work ethic
If you weren’t raised on a farm or other work-centric home, it can be difficult to develop a strong work ethic later in life. However, there are some things you can do. Do one thing every day you don’t want to. Vacuum the floor, if that’s something you don’t like, or mow the lawn. Thinking about work is usually worse than actually working, and as you realize it isn’t as bad as you thought, it will be easier to put that same effort into your business.

Getting down to business
The difficult thing about working hard on your business, however, is that there’s not a physical manifestation of completion. When you finish doing the dishes, you can see the results. However, doing keyword research and updating your website for better search engine optimization isn’t physically visible. If this is disheartening to you, reward yourself for hard work using things that motivate you.

Seeing the benefits
As you make a more concentrated effort to work hard every day, you will begin to see improvements. Choose to see the positive in your business and celebrate successes. Recognizing the fruits of long-term labors will do a lot for your motivation and, as you see the benefits of your hard work, motivate you to give your business the attention it needs to thrive.

Whether you have a small, international, or online business, your e-mail list can be one of the most valuable resources you have for building your brand and growing business. Here are a few ways you can build your e-mail list:

  • Don’t limit yourself to online subscriptions. You’ll want to have a place on your website where people can sign up for your list, but that shouldn’t be the end of it. Use meetings, seminars, conferences, or other off-line opportunities to promote your business and gather e-mail addresses.
  • You also shouldn’t limit yourself to just your own website or your own efforts. Network with other websites, other newsletters, and other members of the industry, asking them to place a link on their own website to your newsletter, ask them to mention your newsletter to their own mailing list, or network some other way. (Keeping in mind, you’ll probably want to reciprocate.)
  • Once you someone has been added to the list, don’t wait to reassure them they made the right choice. In addition to an initial welcoming e-mail (i.e. thanks for subscribing) you should also send them, within a day or two, something of value – a coupon code, a free e-book, or a quality (perhaps, previous) newsletter.
  • When people visit your website or are considering signing up for your e-mail, they shouldn’t wonder what they’re going to get out of it. Be very clear and upfront about what you’ll be sending them, how often you’ll be sending it, and the value they will be receiving from it. You may also want to consider attaching an incentive along with them signing up (like the coupon or e-book ideas previously mentioned).
  • But perhaps the most important aspect to building a quality e-mail list is to continually provide value to your readers. If they feel like their time is being wanted by having to deal with your low-quality e-mails, they will be quick to unsubscribe. Don’t be afraid to ask them what they want and give it to them.
